Abstract

The objective was to evaluate the last instar of Quesada gigas and the process from nymph attachment to adult emergence and wing expansion. The study was conducted in late September in Bajo Sondoveni, Río Negro District, Satipo Province, Junín Region, a period when thousands of cicadas emerge from the ground, becoming airborne and vocal.  A  nymph  was  observed  from  its  attachment  to  a  coffee  stem,  capturing  the moments  of  body  color  change,  adult  emergence,  and  wing  hardening.  Results indicate the nymph undergoes five phases before adulthood. The first phase, lasting approximately 30 minutes from 7:30 pm, exhibited a brown color with white wax. The second phase, of 10 minutes, displayed a light blue and green color with partial body visibility. The third phase, also 10 minutes, showed a light blue and green color. The fourth  phase,  lasting  20  minutes,  presented  a  green  color  with  increased  body visibility. The fifth phase, of about 30 minutes, showed a green color with heightened visibility, and the wings appeared blue under the light.
