Effect of column pre-dimensioning methods on drifts in 6-story buildings

There are different methods to pre-dimension a building, the dimensions adopted by the structural elements will influence the durability of the useful life of a building. In this research, the objective was to analyze the effect of the pre-dimensioning methods: gravity methods, ACI (American Concrete Institute) method and seismic method, which were used for the columns in the drifts of 6-story buildings. It had a descriptive scope, with a quantitative approach where a non-experimental design was used. The results showed that using the appropriate method facilitates the design of the building and also influences the cost of the building. Therefore, it is concluded that pre-dimensioning the columns of the 6-story building influences the behavior of the drifts of the building nodes, the most efficient being the seismic method, which is reflected in the dimensions of the columns. The pre-dimensioning depends on the number of floors, light width and the calculation of load meters.
